Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Well, this winter has absolutely started out on the right foot. This past weekend, boom a foot of snow and we just got another another 6-8 inches tonight. I heard people around the office groaning about more snow fall, are you kidding me people this is why New England is the shit. We get the perks of all the seasons. Ya living in Southern California or the Carolinas is probably very nice this time of year but where is the excitement in that? Up here we get the scorching hot days in the summer, we get some mild days in the spring and fall, and we get piles of snow in the winter. This frozen water dropping out of the sky is a game changer. It makes the holidays better, helps the decision to add whiskey to your eggnog easier and overall brings people together.

Can you imagine that people who live down south will never experience the excitement of a snow day. Nothing and I mean nothing was better than waking up abnormally early after a snow storm to see the name of your school scroll by on your local news station's cancellations list. Snow days were the best, well fuck they still are the best but now that we are out in the working world the magic is gone. Some of my favorite things to do on snow days were:

Playing Football in the Snow

Football is the best sport to play during or after a snowstorm. The added snow padding allows you to have absolutely no concern for bodily harm. There was nothing more satisfying as a kid then to absolutely layout one of your friends after they make a grab, or making a ridiculous diving catch of a touchdown for the win.

Snowball Fights

What could be more fun than having a neighborhood wide snowball fight? Once breakfast with the family has been consumed everyone begins suiting up for battle. Chaos hits the streets. Snowballs flying everywhere. The war could last for hours. At some point you turn a corner and you see some joker with his back turned and one thing pops into your head, white wash. You run up with a huge mound of snow in hand and give him an absolute facial, hopefully you were quick enough to get away before your victim can regained visibility. Snowball fights were always a great time regardless if you got smacked in the face or hit in the nuts by a ball of snow.

Have to mention I had this snowball making tool as a kid and it manufactured the best snow balls in the business.

Building an Igloo

Building an igloo takes time, skill, the correct tools and the correct snow. All of the snow that has fallen this winter is not ideal for building an igloo. For an igloo you need "sticky" snow, a shovel and some type of digging tool. I built an igloo this past year on my deck. It did not have as great of an entrance as this igloo but it was a pretty sweet snow fort in the very least.

This is the igloo I built last year. This year I will be building a much larger igloo on my front lawn. Stay tuned for updates.

Heading to the Mountain

If you have ever ridden a snowboard or taking skies for a ride you know there is nothing like riding during a snowstorm. Every run more powder is being dumped onto the trails. Curios G and I made it up to Wachusett Mountain tonight. It is not the greatest mountain but it does the job when half a foot is falling form the sky.

When I began this blog I was watching the snow fall through the windows on my office building. Right around 1 o'clock an office wide email goes out. The boss says we are getting out early due to the snow. It was not a snow day but it was pretty damn close.

EDITORS NOTE:

Holy shit Big Bird, what reading level is this? Did you just finish reading the Boxcar Children at work today?

Actually, its kind of funny to read if you read it like a kid presenting his favorite action figure to the class during Show and Tell.
