Vs.
Sunday nights are typically reserved for a final moment of relaxation involving a TV series that is usually critically acclaimed. In the past month since football disappeared, the choice for most people has been between watching the Walking Dead on AMC and True Detective on HBO at 9 pm.
If you still watch Walking Dead, you might as well have the IQ of a desk lamp. Ever since Shane died, (Spoiler alert?), the dialogue and the plot line took a weird tangent that is impossible to rescue. Season 3 of that series was the worst thing I've ever watched. Season 3 recap: Rick kills walkers, the Governor shows up, and basically Carl's a little bitch. Rinse. Repeat.
In contrast, True Detective is a fresh new series that stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as, you guessed it, detectives in Louisiana's State Police department solving homicides. The dialogue in this show is some of the most complex and thought provoking of any television series I've ever seen. McConaughey especially delivers some real spacey LSD babble that strangely all makes sense. The real bonus of this show is that the audience is also trying to solve the murders in between the episodes.
In case you weren't convinced, let's compare the female actresses of the shows:
WALKING DEAD:
TRUE DETECTIVE:
Landslide victory for True Detective. At the very least watch the pilot, and see Alexandra Daddario's melons. You'll thank me then.
