ESPN 30 for 30 Shorts: Alex Rodriguez Almost Goes to Boston

Great documentary. Although I was only 13 at the time, I can still remember that Aaron Boone home run against Wakefield like it was yesterday. Still get pissed off.

The documentary makes you appreciate the fact that A-Rod ended up going to the Yankees by pure chance and in hindsight, how well it worked out for both parties.

That lineup that was projected with the deal was insane though:

1.) Damon - CF
2.) Mueller - 3B
3.) A-Rod - SS
4.) Ordonez - LF
5.) Ortiz - DH
6.) Millar - 1B
7.) Nixon - RF
8.) Varitek - C
9.) Bellhorn - 2B

Shivers...

But this will make us feel better:

Update On Jonny Gomes Beard: It's Really Gone

WHO IS THAT?

Like I said in the last Gomes blog, there's zero chance I would recognize him if he walked by me.

Derek Jeter Set to Retire After This Season

GOD NO! PLEASE GOD NO!!!!

Now we gotta watch Jeets collect shitty little trophies everywhere he goes for basically just being on the Yankees for 30 years. Honestly hope the Sox just give him a huge painting of a middle finger, but they're way too classy for that. They'll probably just tell him that he can sit inside the Green Monster for a little while and give him a rosin bag.

Favorite Derek Jeter memory:

When I was little, I got a ball throwing machine that threw little wiffle balls for Christmas:

Basically just went yard all day in my cul-de-sac. The box that the machine came in had a huge picture of Derek Jeter in a batting pose and my Dad just told me to take a sharp object and stab him as many times as I could. I distinctly remember my Dad stabbing Jeter in the leg and yelling, "Torn hamstring!!". Ever since then, I've whispered or thought about Jeter tearing his hamstring every single time he goes up to bat.

Browns Wanted The Big Tuna To Fix Team

NESN

The Cleveland Browns wanted to drag former New England Patriots head coach Bill Parcells out of retirement to run their organization. The 72-year-old Parcells last served as vice president of football operations for the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2010. He resigned from that role in September of 2010. The Browns wanted Parcells to come out of retirement to hold an unknown role with the organization, according to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report. Parcells has been an analyst for ESPN since leaving the NFL.

If there is a move the Browns could've made that proved they weren't fucking around and wanted to climb from out of the abyss that they are in, it would have been to hire Bill Parcells to overhaul the team.

As a sports fan, I love to see parity in sports. When an entire league or the top 75% of the teams are all competitive, it makes the sport much more enjoyable and meaningful. In the NFL, there is parity to a degree, but the same teams seem to end up in the playoffs every year. These same teams do not include the Cleveland Browns. In order to change this, the Browns and these other bottom dwelling teams need to hire a no nonsense type of GM/President that can instill a winning program into a locker room that has a loser mentality.

Being ballsy enough to reach out to Bill Parcells, Nick Saban and Josh McDaniels really proves that the Browns are trying. It may just be an elaborate scheme to trick the poor, poor souls in Cleveland, but this season feels a little more genuine. Best of luck, Cleveland. God knows you need it.

Sochi Smoke of the Day: Hilary Knight

Meet Hilary Knight, a 24 year old New Englander playing puck at the Sochi Winter Olympics for the good ol' USA. Hockey girls are very fit and could probably beat the shit out of you if you're into that sort of thing, but Hilary has a certain "je ne sais quoi" about her.

I have a great vision of us skating around Frog Pond next winter...

A man can dream.

Roy Oswalt Retiring Gets a Hilarious Tweet

Laughed out loud at the office. The most unexpected response to some pretty mediocre news. To be honest, I completely forgot about the word honkey and will start implementing it into my vocabulary for 2014.
