Bob Costas Drinks Vodka on TV

Bob Costas is in full "fuck it" mode. Pink Eye Schmink Eye, he's gonna drink vodka in your face and there's nothing you can do about it. Just babbling on about the guy who invented the periodic table and ignoring whoever this broad is.

In 10 years, this is how a typical conversation about the 2014 Olympics is gonna go.

"Oh man, I forgot about the Sochi Olympics."
"Ohhh yeah, isn't that the year that Bob Costas had pink eye?"

Thanks to Big D for the vid.

Jonny Gomes Shaves His Beard

Really is sad to see that bad boy go. That beard has seen a phenomenal 2013 and in Jonny's words, "You absolutely nailed it, buddy."

I probably wouldn't recognize Jonny Gomes or Mike Napoli without a beard, so its gonna be weird when they go up to bat and I think its a Paw Sox recruit coming up to try out.

Note: Lasers on beard trimmers is so over the top. No need to see an exact line, just be a man and cut it.

Sochi Smoke of the Day: Ashley Wagner

Meet Ashley Wagner: US Figure Skater, who did not place yesterday, but absolutely placed herself firmly in my mind.

Apparently she gave this years version of the "bitch face", when she was given a low score on her seemingly flawless performance.

I am LOVING Sochi so far.

Sochi Smoke of the Day: Silje Norendal

Meet Silje Norendal: Norweigian Snowboarder that could come in 100th place and would still win my heart (Twitter follow).

Booking my flight to Norway ASAP.

Clint Eastwood Saves Random Dude's Life, As Is Expected

Bro, settle down with eating your cheese. The only thing you should choke on is fatty steak. Anything else is just pathetic.

Clint Eastwood saw this guy grabbing at his throat, rolled his eyes and angrily told the guy to shut the fuck up while simultaneously Heimliching this poor bastard back to life.

This was the look on his face the whole time:

Nobody dies on Clint's watch. Only Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby.

Fung Wah Bus Shut Down For Good

Federal officials keep Fung Wah off the road
Katie Johnston - Boston Globe

Federal regulators have denied Fung Wah’s request to resume operations nearly a year after the Boston bus company was shut down for significant safety violations. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which regulates interstate bus travel, provided few details of why it rejected the application from Fung Wah Bus Transportation Inc., simply saying, “The company is not willing or able to comply with the safety standards we require to protect passengers, drivers, and the motoring public.” A lawyer representing Fung Wah said the carrier is appealing the decision. “Fung Wah is ready, willing, and able to get back on the road, and we’re confident that we’ll prevail in our appeal,” said Alexander Linzer of the New York firm Freeman Lewis LLC. The Jan. 24 order rejecting Fung Wah’s request does not list specific failings in the company’s application, other than to note that the carrier applied to resume operations multiple times, “in an apparent attempt to avoid FMCSA’s passenger carrier vetting process.” Carriers that are shut down must reapply for authority to operate and are subject to more scrutiny than a new company trying to launch interstate bus service.

What a surprise! The cheapest bus company gets shut down because they don't train/maintain/fix their buses and bus drivers. As long as a company charges $1 for a service that obviously costs more than $1, these are the results you are gonna get. The only way Fung Wah was profitable was by not fixing shit and by stuffing 500 Asians with live chickens and shit onto a 45 person capacity trash bucket.

I'd rather walk to New York than take the Fung Wah. Way less of a chance of death or impalement.

Another thought: It doesn't make sense why so many Chinese folks want to go from one ChinaTown to another ChinaTown. Don't they all have the same stuff in them?

RIP Fung Wah and thanks for all the great memories:

Indian Luge Guy Practiced for The Olympics By Dodging Goats and Cars

Zack Cox- Jan 10, 2014- NESN

When a luge athlete comes from a country that isn’t exactly known for its snowy conditions, practice sessions require a bit of creativity. That’s the case for Shiva Keshavan, an Indian luge athlete who will make his fifth Olympic appearance next month in Sochi. To train, Keshavan and his fellow Indian lugers swap out blades for wheels and careen down the — often jam-packed — highways of the Himalayas. The exercise, which TIME.com captured in a harrowing first-person video, looks incredibly dangerous, but Keshavan, who will be India’s flag bearer at the 2014 Olympics, has been training this way for years, ever since he picked up the sport after watching a film about a group of other unlikely Olympians. “The first thing they did was show us a video of the luge and bobsleigh, and then the movie of Cool Runnings,” Keshavan told CNN, remembering his introduction to Olympic winter sports as a 15-year-old. “For me, it wasn’t suddenly I was thinking that I want to go to the Olympics, it’s just I wanted to try it.”

Everyone who watched Cool Runnings must know exactly where he got his inspiration from. Obviously it was Sanka and his lucky egg racing the soapbox cars down the hills of Jamaica that made this Indian guy realize that this was his future.

Who can resist the urge to speed on your back down the Himalayas at 60 mph weaving in and out through trucks and goats? Not Shivakaminisondakandakram.

Good luck racing on ice where things are slippery and you're not dodging livestock and its -30 outside.

Update:

He's KILLING IT at the Olympics already.

This looks like magic. And that's because it is. His lucky egg saved his run.
